Great Movie Ride

Class: Darkride

Description: Ride through animatronic recreations of some of your favorite movie scenes including Singing in the Rain and the Wizard of Oz. The wicked witch is the most recent and most realistic animatronic figure ever created by the Imagineers.

Rock and Roller Coaster

Class: Crossover Darkride

Description: While technically a heavily themed rollercoaster, the Rock and Roller Coaster has a lot in common with darkrides. As you board your limo, you experience a blast off into the streets of the city with the signs lighting up along the way. Built into the headrest is a quality sound system where you will hear one of several Aerosmith songs.

Twilight Zone Tower of Terror^TM, The

Class: Crossover Darkride

Opened: July 22, 1994

Description: Possibly one of the finest examples of Disney ride theming, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is based on the popular sci-fi series. The effects and ride mechanics are all a marvel of modern technology so well integrated you forget they are there. Opened in the summer of 1994, the attention to detail is incredible both in the queue and on the ride. Once through the queue, you enter the Library, where you get your first taste of what the story line is about. After that, it is on to the basement to await your elevator. On your way to the finale, you will encounter two experiences, the Corridor scene and the Fifth Dimension. This elevator moves both vertically and horizontally. The finale is a 13 story plunge (free-fall more of less). If you enjoy the drop, this one will take multiple rides to see even a portion of the small details left by the Imagineers.

Description: Figment and Eric Idle take riders on a journey into the five senses in this modern darkride. Watch out for the skunk spray!

Maelstrom

Description: Norway, in World Showcase, has a water darkride with a few surprises. This is no mere history lesson, prepare for some rough seas!

Spaceship Earth

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: The symbol of EPCOT itself, this 182-foot tall modern darkride is a 15 minute journey through the history of human communication. Rumor has it that this attraction will be removed in the near future.

Test Track

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: Test Track, Presented by General Motors is a fast auto ride through an automobile testing facility. The queue has a number of different scenes showing how parts are tested and cars are designed. Once you finally get to ride, you become the crash test dummy! As you travel through the different areas such as leak testing, environmental testing and yes, crash testing, a number of different effects are played out along the way. Once outside the structure, the ride will reach up to 65MPH. Fasten your seat belt, you will need it!

Universe of Energy

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: Join Ellen DeGeneres and Alex Trebec as they take you back in time to learn where petroleum came from. While heavily dependent on 180 degree movie screens at time, the huge ride vehicles also travel through a ancient jungle populated with dinosaurs.

Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: This interactive darkride allows you to shoot at the bad guys and offers a feature not found on other rides - a joy stick that allows you to control the rotation of the car to assist your aim.

Haunted Mansion

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: The Haunted Mansion can best be described as an updated version of the classic darkride. While much of it is high tech with very realistic effects, there is also a portion that pays homage to the classis darkride, in particular the graveyard scene. The haunted mansion is invaded by 999 ghosts always looking for a "good" time. Some may even want to ride along with you in your Doom Buggy, which allows for higher capacity than the standard darkride vehicle. The Haunted Mansion is more humorous and magical than it is scary.

It's A Small World

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: This modern water darkride is in many ways an updated version of the century old Old Mill ride. Love or hate the theme song, it is still a classic Disney attraction that never gets old.

Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, The

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: Join Winnie in a rollicking romp through the Three Acre Woods in this modern darkride. The cars are equipped with limited motion platforms for some added fun.

Peter Pan's Flight

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: A modern suspended darkride that allows you to "fly" through the world of Peter Pan.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Class: Water Darkride

Description: Disney's modernized take off of the Old Mill. Pirates of the Caribbean is a fascinating journey through a town being overrun by Pirates. As you ride in your boat, you pass several scenes of the town with quite a few Audio-Animatronic characters (people and animals) and other effects. As with all Disney attractions, it draws you into the story. Maybe it was bit of a takeoff of the Mill Chute as well!

Snow White's Scary Adventure

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: A modern darkride telling the tale of Snow White.

Splash Mountain

Class: Water Darkride

Description: Combine the classic Old Mill and Mill chute rides, modernize them with a 54 foot plunge, stir in Brer Rabbit, sprinkle on some Disney magic and you have another great Disney water darkride.

Stitch's Great Escape!^™

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: This fun-filled, gross-out experience puts guests in the role of Galactic Federation recruits and plunges them into a hilarious and wacky madcap alien adventure.

Amazing Adventures of Spiderman, The

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: This ride marks the first time that 3D images were used with a moving ride vehicle to create high quality (and more importantly, believable) three dimensional effects. The results are outstanding, easily standing up to the hype from before it opened.
While you are in a moving ride vehicle, it also has many of the actions possessed by motion simulators. It can therefore produce a very wide degree of sensations while moving around the city. The 3D images track with the vehicle quite well.
The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman is also one of the most popular attractions and typically has one of the longest lines in this relatively new park. Much of the queue line is inside the building and is a replica of a newspaper office. You walk through the office between the desks. Be sure to note the details there, as with many Orlando area attractions, the attention to detail is superb.

Cat In The Hat^®, The

Class: Modern Darkride

Description: Don't pass up this modern darkride. It is a very entertaining ride for kids 2-92. Mom has left the house and the Cat In The Hat and his friends have stopped by for a visit. Don't expect an easy going ride here: the cars spin wildly through a few of the scenes.

Jurassic Park^® River Adventure^®

Class: Water Darkride

Description: You can bet on getting wet on this water darkride. Your trip through the jungle among the peaceful herbivores goes wrong and you are thrust into the midst of the meateaters.

Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls®

Class: Water Darkride

Description: A flume ride that takes you through the escapades of Dudley Do-Right and the notorious villain.

Description: Located on Universal Boulevard on the way to Universal, it's hard to miss this attraction. It is a fairly large haunted walkthrough with the usual gimmicks and live actors. Look for discount coupons in the tourist literature.

Description: Quite possible the best darkride in Orlando, this interactive darkride features six passenger, rotating cars that take you through a city overrun with plenty of alien bad guys to shoot at.

Revenge of The Mummy The Ride^{™ ©}

Opened: 2004

Description: A high speed thrill coaster using state of the art special effects. The ride system changes direction several times throughout your journey as you try to escape the Mummy's curse.
